These are interesting to me too. They do have a reputation for deadly mischief, but then if I was chased by a giant I'd probably lead them into a bog too. Or maybe they're just being lights and don't expect people to follow them. or maybe they just were that malicious.

I wonder if "corpse lights" are the same thing and whether they could be spirits of the human dead. Probably not. I get the impression they'd feel very 'zippy' and overall just pleasant to be around.
