If my FIL, who was also a WWII veteran, were still alive, he’d be 96. So this man was older than my father-in-law.

My FIL was 56 when he died in 1988. He was drafted into the navy for WWII. My MIL told me that he was sitting in Tokyo Bay when the war ended. They were carrying troops that had orders to storm the bay the next day.
I'm glad the war ended before they stormed the bay.
