If I could be anything, I would be...: Magical girl✨
My super power would be...: Read other's minds

I’ve mostly worked with Cthulhu and Shub Niggurath. ThisMortalCircus on Etsy has some great services that involve eldritch deities. I recommend reading the source material by Lovecraft, and I have found the books by Donald Tyson to be helpful as well.

Shub-Niggurath is described as a fictional god invented by HP Lovecraft. Yes there are occultists who have worked with the Lovecraftian ethos on the basis that it had occult resonance, but don't forget that before 1970 (the year I became a hippy) no one had any thoughts that those 'eldritch gods' could be anything other than fictional.

This is an excellent overview of Lovecraft, how he came to write those stories and the gradual emergence into occult lore of the beings in those stories. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in them.

Vipera Aspis Atra was active as a practitioner and member of this Forum for a long time. Among other things, she worked with the Lovecraftian mythos and spoke of working with much older, primal beings that existed before the idea of gods and goddesses emerged. She talked of them as probably darker, older beings that were like deities.

But Vipera (previously known here as Noctua) also talked about doing work with other fictional mythoi, such as Alice in Wonderland.

That's probably a rarely talked about form of magic - probably known in some forms of Chaos magic work. Not a direct, straight line from Old Gods to working with them as in spirit keeping.

We can work with archetypes and fictional characters or beings in some forms of chaos magic. It's less hidebound and more free and easy.

It was speculated that Lovecraft had literally been in touch with the forces in his stories because they were inspired by dreams he had. Names came to him too. So some Lovecraftian occultists may feel they can literally connect with real beings.

But it's good to know the context of something. These Eldritch old ones didn't exist on human beings' magical radar for all of recorded human history until around 100 years ago someone set out to write convincing horror stories in the same way as you would carry out a hoax.

Lovecraft never studied magic or tried it himself. He wasn't an occultist.

But it resonates.

One thing that has been said about those kinds of beings is they may have existed before concepts of right and wrong or good and bad did.

So we humans would do well not to mess about with them if we don't know what we're doing. Not suitable for absolute beginners basically.

Anyone can read the stories but working with such dark beings that don't differentiate between right and wrong is probably best done by those who are experienced and capable of being protected at master level and who are knowledgeable about how to interact with them.

As ever these are my views.

Vipera is no longer active on this forum and doesn't have a shop, unfortunately. She did demonstrate the best understanding of these things that I've seen here when she was active.
