This is a phenomenon, which occurs to many people and as I regularly have it, I really wonder, who is right:
- the paranormal scientists stating that this feeling occurs, when the astral body "falls back" into the physical body
or
- the scientists calling it a "hypnagogic jerk".
What are your opinions about it?

A mundane opinion- It can be caused by apnea. Difficulty breathing, especially on your back, causes a small jolt of adrenaline that the body CAN interpret as falling. I have to say it as a person who suffered from undiagnosed apnea for years and had no idea why this happened to me so often
The paranormal opinion- I am of the mind that this can ALSO be caused by the bodies temporarily coming apart, especially right in that border between consciousness and sleep where strange things have a tendency to happen

Thank you for your opinon, Hitthuginn. I have tried astral travelling so many times, but I cannot say that I have ever really managed to astral travel, except perhaps one experience, when I had the feeling/vision of flowing under the ceiling, but perhaps this was just a dream.

Maybe a bit of both depending on circumstance? Hutthuginn makes a valid point with it potentially being related to a medical problem. Though I could also see it being related to the astral body coming back into the physical body.
I don’t experience this sensation too often, but when I do I usually think I am on the edge of my bed/couch and teetering over for some odd reason. Maybe it could be related to dreaming as well? If one is having a dream about falling or being too close to a ledge, then perhaps the body is trying to compensate and catch itself? I’ve also had the opposite occur, where my waking body decides it needs to ‘jump’ to avoid danger. I push off my bed and fully come to consciousness at the top of my ‘jump’.

I’m surprised the paranormal scientists got it right. I often felt like someone was pulling my feet at the end of the bed before I got into the paranormal. It felt like I was falling, even though I was still in bed, and it usually woke me up. It's hard to explain, but anyone who has experienced it will understand.Livvie Locke-Morley wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:47 am This is a phenomenon, which occurs to many people and as I regularly have it, I really wonder, who is right:

This is similar to a game of tag where your astral body is nudging your physical body to return to the physical world. If you don't recall your astral experience, you'll remember just the moment when you're waking up. You feel an energy shift that resembles falling. That's the experience.
With experience, it improves, and you have the ability to adjust your energy right before waking up, transforming what once seemed like a phenomenon into a thing of the past.
I honestly would take it as a good sign. Feeling energy shifts is a sign of sensitivity to energy. While I used to believe I wasn't sensitive (and still do), my friends say otherwise because I can detect these changes. Many people may experience it without noticing at all.
Discovery lies in open hearts and minds, ignorance thrives in closed spaces.
