Sandman?

Post by Jenjens »

Hello,

I have a sandman on the way, but other than a short description, I don't know about associations or offerings since they are not in the encyclopedia. Does anyone have a sandman companion that knows more information on them?

If he can help me fall asleep faster, that would change my quality of life and I would love to offer him something, but I have zip, zero communication abilities with my spirits.

Also, there are no threads on them, so I would also love some experiences.

Thank you!!

Hi

I got my Sandman last Autumn. I asked CH then about associations, as the link sent me to the wrong kind of spirit. They were planing on updating associations - maybe if you ask CH now, they might have done that but not put them up yet?

When my Sandman came, I really liked its energy and immediately felt that delicious soporific influence. I think (guess) they are capable of being kind of social but perhaps they're usually focused on getting you to sleep so they don't have to much time to socialise...which leads me on to...

One of the key things I've learned about sleep is habit-forming. Sleep scientists say we should train our body-mind system to associate bed with being a place where we sleep. (Not a place where we lie awake being unable to sleep.) So they recommend that if we can't sleep we get out of bed and go somewhere else until we feel tired and ready to sleep.

The reason I mention that is the link between us and our spirits is often very subtle. If we willfully lie in bed engaged in activity other than simply gong to sleep, then we may be making it harder for our Sandman spirit to take us there.

I don't think it's a good idea to lie in bed before sleep connecting with my spirits as that tends to wake my mind up and make me hyper alert. Maybe that is like someone who complains to a doctor that the medicine that heals cuts isn't working as they keep bleeding, only for the doctor to say " well if you'd only stop cutting yourself....the medicine works fine". I don't know if that makes sense.

I am 'guilty' of having been a bit rebellious about behaving myself in terms of sleep hygiene. I need to recondition myself, as I think I've been making it hard for my sandman to do his job. Time to become a Pavlov dog.

So my only caveat is: yes, as long as we help them to help us - don't make things difficult for them - they're really good. It's that catch 22 kind of thing: we need to clearly want to have their help, in order to really connect to their help...but we probably want their help in the first place because we're in a state of resistance when it comes to sleeping.

Actually, that may be a lot of nonsense and none of this is applicable to anyone else but me.

Don’t be scared. This island is full of noises, strange sounds and sweet melodies that make you feel good and don’t hurt anyone. Sometimes I hear a thousand twanging instruments hum at my ears, and sometimes voices that send me back to sleep even if I had just woken up—and then I dreamed of clouds opening up and dropping such riches on me that when I woke up, I cried because I wanted to dream again. Lewk, you wrote this a 4 in the morning lol. So he does help? He is, except from a wraith, the only spirit I choose not to be bridged to me because I got nervous because he helps induce sleep and didn't want any misunderstanding with my thoughts during the day. So, I will have his vessel on a necklace, wear it right before I am ready to fall asleep and ask for his assistance. Thanks for the pep talk lol!

;*D

Actually, when I Iook at it, my post says I wrote it at 10:17 am.

But for the last 7 years, since I took voluntary redundancy, I have been an extreme night owl. I usually prefer to be up during the quiet night hours.

I have gone from being awake for a few hours a week(!) then to sleeping an almost normal length of time now.

Not only do I feel like the Sandman helps (by the way I also have a Baku from CH and a Dreamcatcher from Lisa of MMT) but it feels like, if I tune in better and mind my mental habits more, I will be able to get that perfect restorative sleep more often.

I did get it when the Sandman first came. But our minds tend to develop resistance and can rebel against good habits. I think this is yet another example of us having to invest time and intelligent effort into getting the best out of a relationship with a spirit companion.

Different timezone gives different time stamp in the post.
Maybe you can see it at the bottom of the forum, there's the "All times are UTC+[your timezone]"
