I ended up getting a dark arts familiar through RA but I haven't really done much with her.
She either sits on my coffee mug or sits on my head taking the form of a cockatiel but her real form is a secretary bird.

I think she 'gave' me a feather because I found a very odd looking feather in her natural form's colors when there are no white and black birds in this area.

My super power would be...: Read other's minds
My magical/paranormal name...: Eudy

I purchased a Dark Arts Familiar recently, we are still in the bonding process. It's a black fox and so far he's been making himself known quite a bit. It actually already started before I got the Mail that the order was completed. I would start smelling freshly cut grass in my room or outside when no freshly cut grass was nearby. He loves to sleep on my bed and I'm excited to get to know him more! πŸ’•

I got a White Arts one in March - manifests as a cat, last familiar to a general practitioner during the AD 12th century. He's very responsive and I'm very pleased to have him.

Even though he's a White Arts being, he can help me with both WA & DA magick, which suits me down to the ground, although I didn't ask for that. I use both the WA & DA CH guidance books and the spells and exercises in them.

Although I'm still mainly aligned with WA, I feel the need for balance between that and DA. There's so much DA energy in the world, as ASH quite rightly says, because we humans are DA.

what is exactly a FAMILIAR? Is it a spirit, a shapeshifter, a living entity, a ghost of an animal, or a totam?? I can't found it in the encyclopaedie.

In relation to this thread, you can get a DA custom conjure Familiar from CH, or a WA one. (I have one that can help me with both DA & WA magic.)

What is a Familiar anyway?...it's kind of but also not quite what you mentioned...probably it is either a special type of spirit being that acts as a familiar or it is a being that this able to be brought into use to act in this special way.

What do we mean by being a Familiar?...

"A Spirit Familiar is a spirit that provides assistance, guidance, insight & companionship to someone who practices or lives within the world of magic and the paranormal."

"It has long been known that practitioners, witches, warlocks, sorcerers, sages do not work alone - they are always accompanied by spirits."

Thank you very much. So this brings me more questions to ask. Is a Lynx a familiar or a totam animal? Also, why is it distinguished a familiar spirit from a let's say a dragon? Also, Ilmu Khodam is called a familiar. Is that means because it's a personal guide? Does not necessarily have to be an animal?
And finally, Paniwi? Is that also belongs to a familiar or that's more like an angel category? πŸ€” Sorry, this is such a learning curve.

Just to bring it back to the op topic, which is about DA familiars...familiars can be DA, or WA.

What makes them familiars is they are not only companions but also actively help their keeper with their magical work.

Yes, it is rather complex.

Abilities

There are spirits that can:

- amplify the power of spells that we cast (eg Butterfly Faery)
- amplify our personal power, as well as our magical ability (eg Duojna)
- give you new abilities (eg Ilmu Khodam)
- defend and help you on your spiritual path (eg Paniwi)
- "provides assistance, guidance, insight & companionship to someone who practices or lives within the world of magic and the paranormal." (eg Familiars)

There are overlaps in what each can do. As you can see, there are subtle differences between each thing in the above list. Subtle, but they are differences.

Paranormal Companions - specialism

Keepers have reported other, non-specialist spirit companions helping them with their spiritual/magical practice - of spirit types that aren't known to specialise in being a familiar. I've experienced something like this myself. When we're very close to a spirit companion they seem to add their energy to ours, or closely follow or guide us in what we're up to, so that it can seem that they're actively helping us perform our spiritual work.

The Familiars that CH bind specialise in this and may have previous experience helping keepers.

Cultural variations

Geographical - Finally, different cultures around the world have probably had their own go-to spirit for this kind of help. That's how you get both Paniwis (Egyptian) and Familiars (more European/medieval). Ilmu Khodam are perhaps from Arabic culture. And that's how you end up with each type being viewed slightly differently by the differing cultures and time periods they were known in...I think.

Historical - There are all kinds of specialist guides and helpers, from different time periods, when different spiritual practices were used. I see totem animals as being from the shamanic period; paniwi from the ancient/classical period; familiars from the medieval period.

Guardians, guides, familiars. It may all seem to be very much the same thing. I think it kind of is in one sense - but at the same time they really aren't all the same.

wow... Thank you.
Is truly indeed its an eyes opener. I think, probably what Magnolia have in terms of shop item conjuration under familiar is indeed the true and traditional familiar. And Paniwi, I wouldn't guess to be one. I wish to have it based on protection as well as healing ect... But mostly for protection. Anyhow, it's a good topic to marinate my mind a bit more about it. πŸ˜… I do appreciate your time abs energy to reply.
