I want to start a yoga practice. I’ve been eyeballing Rachel Brice’s “Serpentine” and Ariellah’s “Contemporary Belly Dance and Yoga” DVDs for years. According to the reviews, Ariellah’s is better suited for beginners. The yoga conditioning on both look great and then for a fun twist you can try the dance drills and such. I thought it might be good for getting back in touch with my body. Plus Ariellah is so gosh darn pretty, she can be a style inspiration.
Does anybody do something like this?

Not exactly that. At this point in my life I do yoga daily, and what I'd refer to as bacchic trance-practice which is a form of primal dance and does keep me very in touch with my body. Am thinking of getting into pole dancing when circumstances are less plague-y.

You should go for what you're thinking of (if you've not already - seeing as this is an older post), it can only be a benefit. Physical wellness and balance affect everything else of our lives, including our spirituality. Practices like dance and yoga help us to be more aware of the energies within and around us.

Cool. How did you learn to do the Bacchic stuff?

The Bacchic dance comes organically more or less as a result of partial possession by Dionysos/Bacchus (that doesn't mean drinking myself silly with wine), so it's a bit intense - a form of ritual ecstasy one experiences from communion with a god. It's similar to what the ancient maenads/revelers who followed Dionysos would get into. It's almost like moving to a wild, ancient drumbeat that you're feeling the vibration of and hearing on a spiritual level rather than physical.

I love yoga because it makes me feel on another planet, giving me a feeling of ease and emptiness as I fly into the universe. For such sensations, I think that anyone would try yoga at least once.
