I find it's best not to focus too much on the results of the meditation. To start out, pick a small timeframe such as 5-15 minutes, and just let yourself relax without worrying too much about the time. (Of course you can keep a timer if you need one, but don't keep checking the clock.)
If your mind wanders, acknowledge it and try again. As you get used to sitting still and meditating, your body will adjust until you can do it longer and longer. Even then, don't be discouraged if there are days you can't manage for as long. It's the quality of the meditation, not the length of it that's important.
