I overheat from within a little after finishing a meditation sometimes. Looking online I've found that the blood vessels open up during meditation and causes a heated 'alcahol' like effect, but I was wondering if any of you have a more metaphysical explaination, because I often do deep meditation these days, but I don't always feel overheated afterwards. Today I meditated for about thirty minutes. No focus on chakra or energy work, just a deep calm and silence. I lost track of time so it went by fast. When I came out of it, I was really tired but fine. I then proceeded downstairs to give the cat his demanded homage of food and petties, made myself some lunch, and went back upstairs.

It all took about 45 mins, and by the time I got back to my room I felt dizzy and like I was on fire. The air around me felt chilly at 74'F and I was sweating. I opened a window and the outside temp was 84'F but still felt cold. Everything felt cool to the touch and it felt like I was breathing in ice cold air. About an hour later, I was fine. This is the worst one yet, so I decided to ask questions. If it keeps going like this, I'm a little worried about meditating negatively affecting my health. Am I doing something wrong or is there something I should add to my routine?

I'm not sure and I ought to say I don't promote myself as an expert. And I don't teach these things. However I do have decades of experience of a variety of types of meditation.

Disclaimer: as usual, the advice is that any hint of ill health is best addressed by consulting a medical professional.

First thing that comes to mind is some side effects of kundalini awakening, which can happen even if you're not practicing a kundalini-related meditation.

The second thing is to recommend doing protection before and during any spiritual work session and remaining centred and grounded, especially afterwards.

Internal heat seems to be a common effect of many types of spiritual practice. There are some that specifically generate it (eg tibetan buddhist tummo). And some element work can involve accumulating it in the body or astral body. Warmth is often felt in healing and is generally healthy if in the body. But, if the head feels hot and stuffy, that to me is a sign of imbalance and is not a healthy state.

The fact that you felt loss of heat afterwards suggests possibly some form of energy leakage / loss. Sealing and / or protecting the aura can help. As could being able to lock the main chakras and close your psychic gates. Healing the imbalances in the aura too.

There are probably quite a few learning resources on the internet for any and all of those things.

Judy Hall's The Way of Psychic Protection (Thorson's, 2001) covers this and more.

You can also task your spirits or spell bindings to help ameliorate these imbalances and protect you from harm to your health.

That to me sounds like a fever. I would recommend getting checked out by a medical professional.

That's interesting. I usually have to meditate under a blanket because I tend to get really cold after meditating a while.

Regardless of meditation being a spiritual practice, I oddly hadn't thought of setting up any kind of protection before. I kind of just assumed it was more internal work and not a vulnerable state. I also hadn't thought of tasking my entities before beyond helping with focus and energy flow.

I've worked with kundalini energy before, I think at least. Massive amounts of energy and heat. Definately need to ground it out and stay in control. I've never experienced the whole 'extacy' state I hear about. It's just a lot of tingling, heat, and overwhelming energy flow that keeps layering upon itself over and over. So when compared to others like gurus who talk about being blissed out and connected to a constant state and flow of exstacy, I just kinda shrug and think it's wierd it manifests for them like that. To me, it's just crazy raw overwhelming power and sometimes I think my body is going to dizzolve or my head will explode/implode hard to explain that one.

Anyway, the heat afterwards is comparable to a full body fever. I wanted to take my temperature the other day but I couldn't move for a while. Then 45mins later it was just gone like it never happened. I have plans to speak with TORG'RAA who is a water dragon who just made his presence known through 'The Working Dragon Mystic' and is actively inviting contact. I feel he'll be able to help balance out the fire for sure, and maybe I can then focus on pushing my energy even further. Wee! Let's be a conduit that doesn't melt! XD

I know what you mean.

I think I may have become slightly opened by psychedelic drugs in the 1970s. Then daily practice of some raja yoga meditation techniques for years really did make me very tuned in to spiritual energies. I 'blame' the fact that psychic protection was not a part of that meditation approach for the fact that I began feel negative energies too - which turned into the common form of psychic attack, which became chronic.

Some forum members have also recommended doing protection work for any spiritual work sessions. As does Judy Hall, author of the comprehensive The Way of Psychic Protection book I mentioned above.

Various forms of work may seem to require more in depth protection - conjuring is thought to require the most extensive, effective banishing and space clearing. But as Magnolia or ASH have said, you can never have too much protection. And it's good to have overlapping layers of it, from diy stuff to spell bindings and specialist spirits - even at least 3 types of each for more layered coverage. You probably know all this.

I think quite a few forum members would advocate a basic space clearing, centering, grounding and auric shielding for all spiritual work sessions.

Whether I knew it before or I know it now, it's in our nature to learn through cycles of repetetive experience. Just like we require layers of protection against negative influences, we require layers of knowledge to protect ourselves from ignorance.

I apreciate the time and effort you have taken to impart this knowledge in whatever layered form it may take in whoever's learning cycle that reads it and I hope you don't hesitate to do so again in the future. My glaring mistakes are that I've neglected taking protective measures in the past and I will proceed with more caution in the future. More research needed... always.

Cheers to one more step forward!
