A Member Moonlighting as a Writer?

I was watching Vampire Diaries a while back and thought it was coincidental they gave this evil black magician the name of an actual black magician I knew. And now I'm watching the Originals and heard my name as one of the characters. My name isn't common in English! Either these writers or channeling, or it's the strangest coincidence.

Paranormal is trending in fiction, I would not be surprised if writers did research among people that practice magic and research paranormal, its easier to feed your imagination like that than to make everything up on your own. Largest communities can be found in forums, so I think its logical that we'd get moonlighters, at least those that look for something they do not already know.

I agree. They probably look for strange names to use in their works. It is easier than using their imagination and coming up with a name on their own.

If I recall the character in the vampire diary's isn't originally from an English speaking country. Also it was a series of books written by L. J. Smith long before it was a tv show. And the only reason I knew about that is I have almost all the Dresden files series in audio book format including the short stories Jim Butcher wrote; which, includes a story written for a collection that Smith was one of the lead writers on.
