This is my idea, trash it or reinforce it if you will.

I think it will be best if we make a brand new section reserved for Controversial Topics and Debates. I think that would fit right in. I bring this up because not pointing at anyone in particular but during my observation from being a part of this forum since december, a thread can often split into 2 ways and steer off from the original discussion.

I feel if someone strongly wants to make a point they should make a new thread about it. Nothing wrong with debating thats why there should be a new section for controversial topics!

If they were a debate section it should be moderated by moderators of this forum to keep an eye out. And even be rules to bringing up points without stating why the other is wrong.

So should there be a new section for controversial topics without having to drag on a meaningless discussion hijacking an OP's thead?

I'm all for it. As long as its moderated and has rules to it. =)

This would be a great idea, and it would allow full expression of contradicting ideals- perhaps even without the guilt trip?

Aaawh thank you guys!

And Angel I agree! I think this could sink all the forums venom into one specific area and with it being moderated it can all be nuetralized which in theory making the community a better place.

People can rant all they want and justify how right or wrong they are, because it stood true to the point of there thread and argument to begin with.

I dont like seeing pages dragged on over bickering which i find very disrespectful to the OP. :(

If it does end up happening i think it should be OUTSIDE the tenured section as well. No matter how long someone has been a part of the forum, everyone has a good piece to put in! ^__^ <3

The only moderation should be for Personal Attack and that is very different from Personal Disagreement. If more moderation is done than that, then people, will most likely wind up with a bulletin board that will fall apart within 3 months . IF people are (and I am not saying they are, I am saying "IF") too thin skinned to disagree and say, "You are wrong and here's why......" then its simply not a debate. If the debates over this past week are offensive to most people on this forum, then I am posting in the wrong place, and should simply spend my time doing other things. PArts of this world have tried to institue the idea of "if you don't like it, keep quiet....." Bickering to one person is pure disagreement to another. So if it turns out to be like that.....well, its Roadrunner Time.....

In the meantime, I will take a "Wait & See" attitude. Currently, I see no reason to involve myself with further posts in the near future, but time will tell.

A Bientot,
Caiyros

This is so far out of line that I will never follow a directive like this ever. On the other hand, if a directive like this is written, Ch will fill up with overly sensitive people and children and will lose its status for being "Adult". DD for the past 2 years has said that CH is "a playground for children only"....at the current time it is not this at all...At the Current Time.....C-

Cairyos i understand what your saying, but i think you misunderstood one statement i made out. =)

"they were a debate section it should be moderated by moderators of this forum to keep an eye out. And even be rules to bringing up points without stating why the other is wrong."

Personal Attacks should definitely be moderated. Disagreements though isn't that what part of why a forum is there for? I only brought it up as an example. A few months ago a thread got out of hand and dragged up till 9 pages of mudslinging that had nothing to do with the OP's statements so Mag made a new thread specifically for that discussion for people to express there strong beliefs WITHOUT saying why the other is wrong. It was more there just provided for rant purposes.. =P

Of course that can work but it would make it no fun. So no i'm not actually literally in favor for restricting people to disagree with one another and elaborating as to why.

Personal Attacks though. All in favor of being moderated. But sometimes the person being challenged would feel like he/she was attacked if someone is coming across as assertive in making a point. Which will provide a series of emotional reactions which was never intended in the first place. Either way people need to see that they are simply adressing the comments which had been made piece for piece on it's merits, as they tend to. Has NOTHING to do nor no reason to feel why the person in question holds a grudge against them nor is acting nasty with them. A disagreement is simply a disagreement it doesnt mean the person has it out for them. But i can definitely see it happening people will feel like they have been attacked when it really isnt that way at all. So i guess it depends on the case from direct as opposed to indirect OR implied..

But more as to why i would love to have a debate/controversy section.

I can make a post on mudkips. ;o

People can address there thoughts to my post about mudkips. One person would lash out negatively to my thoughts on mudkips or what i experienced. And then more people will make responses with strong emotional to that one persons post instead of addressing the whole point of my post entirely. It can drag out up to 10 pages adding NOTHING to the thread? They will either end up getting deleted or getting locked. That's both emberrasing and disrespctful for the OP if people dont stay true to the original intent for the post.

A better way to have handled that is to simply say "I am in disagreement in your thoughts about mudkipz but i will lend you my thoughts on mudkipz in contribution to your post." Doesnt have to be excactly like that but something along those lines. Would save alot of heat and trouble. ^_^

:baghead:

Having a debate section for controversial topics, people can rant, and freely justify there thoughts and beliefs and ANYONE can openly challenge them because it will still be true to the whole point of why that post was created in the first place. There's nothing really to get offtopic about there as long as one doesnt leave too much ground to cover. ^_^

I also asked for this for personal reasons as well as i love to debate and would love to entice discussions about God, Religion, Political Agenda's, and spirituality in general. As this is a spirit keeping forum i really have nowhere appropriate to express my thoughts on those besides maybe "Off topic-Randomness". But them being so massivly controversial as they are i can see all those subjects fitting into the "Debate Section" As well as people's rants and strong beliefs they hold.
