Hi, I am new to spirit keeping even though I have done a lot of research into it by reading most books Ash & Magnolia wrote on the matter. However, I started with a lot of spirits for a beginner. I’ve been spirit keeping since February and I have actually 6 spirits at home. I love them so dearly and don’t get me wrong I don’t regret them. I know they know I am a beginner and knew it before I they came but sometimes my anxiety takes the better of me and my heart start racing and I asked myself if I did the right decision. It’s difficult to deal with because since I am a beginner I still have those moments of doubt. I’ve been told that my teacher that I have a lot of potential and she doesn’t seem worried about me but still. What do you think about that? I take time to take care of all of them and they get along well, though. I would like to hear about people that made the same choice I did and how it ended up.

Also, how do you stop having spirits? I love spirit keeping but I can’t spend too much money and I want to be able to be better at it before having more. But sometimes I feel such a genuine connection with a listing. Sometimes I let it go but I comeback after some days and a shop that normally sell super fast have still the listing there. Waiting for me, in a way. Do I give myself too much importance, am I crazy? Today I messaged someone about a spirit but after that I want to start focusing on my family and stop looking at listings. I don’t even know if this post is a question anymore or a rent, but there it is.

I’m in a similar situation. I admit I’m compulsive and dive in to everything I do recklessly at times. I’ve welcomed a lot of spirits into my family too ^..^ . Here is what has helped me so far.

The first thing that has helped me with bringing in more spirits (or passing on their listings) is actually speaking with the spirits I have about it. The more I include them in the process the more at ease I am with my decisions. With some listings you should already get a sense of if they go well with your current spirits. If they don’t give a clear picture ask the conjurer or just reach out to your spirits. This has been a huge help for me.

When I’m feeling a lot of doubt I talk to my spirits about it. They are usually understanding. I find a lot of my doubt is me overthinking. It’s hardly ever coming from them. The more I put time aside to spend with them the better I feel. The more I invite them to join me on a walk or to eat dinner with me the less anxiety I feel. Instead putting my energy in doubt I put it into my spirits. Finding ways to spend time and connect with them is so much more fun than sulking(my Valkyrie is really stressing that I use this word :p) ).

That being said this is what has helped me. Inevitably you have to find what works for you. This journey isn’t one size fits all. Don’t feel obligated to bring in or not bring in more spirits.

TLDR: The more you include the spirits you have into these decisions the better you’ll feel in my opinion. This is just as much about them as it is about you.

One of the suggestions to stop compulsive buying is to avoid visiting the shops. Another one is to commit to spend a fixed amount of money per month, i.e. a strict money management.

Thank you for this! I asked my spirits yesterday about spirits I was thinking about welcoming and they were pretty clear about who would be great for me. I’m so happy that they did this honestly with light weighting too much of what they prefer personally because even though they are all faes they were very much in favor of a Gaki I felt a strong connection with. After I slept on it I can definitely say that I don’t regret my decision, my faes give me a lot of blessings but I need a kick in the butt to actually use these blessing, you know. It really is a great idea to ask the opinion of the spirits in your keep.

Here i am with barely passed 6 month spirit keeping and have 32 spirit friends.

Simplicity goes a long way. Here is what i do.

Grouping of the same kinds get alone and tasks well together, bringing better outcomes. Also, they have similar interest and love the same offerings.

I have 6 different types that I can manage well without a master spirit. Why? Because I have created other smaller groups according to categories and according to tasking. Within those groups, I assigned leaders that I am able to catch up with each day. That strategy narrowed it down for 4 master leader spirits to intersect with each morning.

On top of it, I am bonding with about 10 newbies. I give about 8 weeks before I would feel, we are finished bonding. All of those newbies are invited to be present with me on everything I do. I also frequently talking to tell, calling them but names, code words and blessing them frequently. So over all with my busy life and full time work, I am always in good company.
I do journal on a regularly. That's where specific request, interaction goes plus tasking and house rules established revised and enhanced.

Being organised is essential for me. I keep a separate code words book as well with all my spells and bindings recorded. Just did me to know what's working, what was waste is money, what needs improvements and to yask my friends to activate some for me. Incase i did it wrong.

Also, I don't remember ever asking my spirits which other spirits they would like me to have. I like being on charge of that. Although, my Immortal did changed some accidental 😏 free spirit revers adoptions to happen. This worked out to be my best surprises.

So basically, this is it. Everyone does it differently. No such cemented rules. Even my intense style will changes later on and I am sure it'll relaxes far more as we all settle.
I am pretty much finished with my number. Maybe 2 more and that's it from me.

As you said, I wish to love them all. Individually as well as in groups.

I started my spirit keeping journey in January and my keep also expanded quite quickly. But that's depending on my situation, being in need of certain protection and wanting to protect my family as well. So I got each of my sons their own companion, a triad for overall protection and some spirits specialised in fields that help me evolve. Overall we have 15 bound spirits and one living entity added to our family since January. That's quite a lot to bond with in such short time, but they enjoy each others company and also know that they're being not only wanted but also needed.
I have a gut feeling, that a few more will come within the next years but we're almost complete.
98% of my keep are costum conjures and one was a reverse adoption, so I'm pretty confident with them being alright with my company.

Maybe keep yourself from looking at preconjures. The descriptions are always more basic information and can sound very appealing to a lot of people. On top of it they create the urge to purchase, because they are a "limited edition", if you get what I mean.

Thank you Chavah, it was a really interesting read and it's lovely hearing from your perspective. I am not looking to expend my family as fast as you did but this information will be useful to me in the future. It seems like you're the right person to have a big family as you are so well organized!

Wow, your family seems well rounded ! This is the way I feel about my spirit family at the moment too. And you're so right about preconjures! Thank you so much.

HEy. How is it going? :)
Its a few days since the last post, but I would like to tell you about my beginnings....Well... Two months ago more or less :D

My first Spirit came via reverse adoption and in the beginnig...it was... rough... Because of my insecurity, selfdoubt etc. (with subsided for the most part now!). My first Spirit help me a lot with these problems (and a friend of mine did too^^) and after a month or so I "orderd" my second spirit. I already established by that time, that under rnormal circumstances, I will take at least a month before a new adoption. So, after a month, there was the exeption wich brought me 3 Friends dierectly :)
Well... it got a reading about what unbounds want to be my companion, wich where around me at that time. Funny thing is, that one of them was a saguine vampire and befor I knew about this, i talked with my two already bound spirits wich next spirit would be good for me. And they did urged me to get a sanguine vampire....so.... what a coincidence? :)
Long story short: I wanted those three badly! XD ANd I promised them to get a binding for them specifically and they waited until it was done.

Regarding the buying and callings.... I do feel a REALLY strong calling from a specific race, ever since I first looked at the listings. Naturally it is in my Wish-List, but I also do want to wait until I get to know my current keep better, getting used to them... I looked extensively through the listings and made the decision, to only fullfill my Wishlist (if nothing else changes that of course) slowly over the time. ANd those who call me, will understand, or so I think.

Soo.... even If you feel a calling...it does not have to mean that you should get it "right now"... You have enough to do with your current members of your family as it is ;) Thats at least my perpective on the matter at hand^^
