I just found out about a new documentary produced in Korea. It's called 'Shaman: Whispers from the Dead'.
I am on episode 1 right now, watching it on Viu. So far, it's been a girl recounting her story, and right now I'm at the part where the shaman visits her home. She's been cursed! I will continue watching it and leave a review later on.

Here's the synopsis of the documentary:
In this documentary series featuring Actor Yoo Ji Tae and Actress Ok Ja Yeon, they delve into the world of Korean shamanism. They follow the stories of people who suffer from seeing ghosts and unexplainable phenomena. Different kinds of evil curses are introduced, and what shamans do to lift them is explained in detail. The process of how one becomes a shaman is shared through a lady who has no choice but to channel a spirit in order to survive.

I have finished watching episode 3. In the second story, it talks of a woman who is forced to become a 'mudang', a shaman. Just imagine, it must be so strange and distressing, to be forced onto a path you actually do not want to be on. She tried to run from her fate, went all the way to Australia to study nursing, and even got a bachelor. Unfortunately, she couldn't run away from it.

There is a common theme that shamans face, and that is unexplained illnesses which doctors are not able to explain the causes of, nor treat it. From the documentary, they call it 'spirit sickness', where the spirit causes illnesses and death to important people around the shaman who is rejecting their fate. In the end, her son fell ill every month, having to go to the hospital. She resigned to her fate, and became a shaman (which afterwards, her son is cured). It is interesting to note that her mother is also a shaman, and tried desperately for her own daughter to not be in this path. She could also hear unexplained bell sounds from the age of 9, and see ghosts with her physical eye quite often.

As a sister to two brothers and a cousin who can see and hear the paranormal physically in the past, I have asked them this question before: If you were given a choice, would you rather be able to see/hear, or not? The answer is obviously no.

You may wonder why the answer is a no. Would it not be amazing to be able to see and sense the spiritual world? Well from their description of the ghosts they see, I think I would not want that ability as well. You don't get a choice when or how to shut off that ability. It's not all unicorns. Imagine seeing bloody headless ghosts, walking TOWARDS you (this is a true story, recounted to me). Would you not immediately want to scream and shout? Yet you have to fight against your natural instinct, for fear that if the ghosts know you CAN see them, what then would they do to you?

I think I am very blessed and fortunate that I cannot see nor hear ghosts physically.

Wow, that sounds like a fascinating series. I agree it must be awful to be forced to walk a path you do not wish to be on and as I think about it, this is quite a common occurrence in the mundane life as well! That is really a disturbing thought about the spirit sickness and the pressure being applied to conform to the path she was trying to avoid.

I had never really thought about seeing ghosts from that angle before and its truly fascinating if not a little worrying to think that some of the more malicious types could really torment someone if they knew they could be seen by them.
:/

Very insightful and gives plenty to think about 8))

The problem with the 'obvious no' is a lack of knowledge which breeds fear, and this is ingrained within us from the start. Especially when you add in if it is ever revealed that you do have the capability of 'sight', because then something is wrong with you. You're insane, corrupted, and will be shunned unless you refuse it.

Of course, seeing sights like that will strike fear into you-the unknown suddenly revealed is a complete surprise full of terror.

If it was something that was instead taught, that the possibility is real and descriptions of what you may or may not encounter was given to you beforehand, then the fear would be gone. If, as a child, you were told "You may see things--if you do, you are very lucky. This is what they are, these are the ones you stay away from, and these you should approach."

I say this, because in my studies about djinn culture, there ARE places in the world where communities exist where this knowledge IS given to the children. They are told "You may be one of those that have the chance to see them. If they appear as such, you do and say this. If they instead appear as this, then this is what you must do."

Seeing a headless spirit would't be much different than seeing a ghul. If you're struck with terror, you're in trouble. If you already know what to do--avoid them and avoid conversation--you'll be fine.

And if you're a spirit keeper, well... you may already be friends with a ghul.

Youโ€™re right, nurture is a very important aspect if taught how and what to do in situations like these. Perhaps then the fear would be gone and it would become a โ€˜normalโ€™ part of life to us.

Being taught from young and having people to guide would definitely lessen and replace the fear emotion with something else. However sadly this knowledge is not taught nor given and thus the simplest and obvious choice would be โ€˜noโ€™โ€™. Especially given how most humans would rather shun and avoid the topic of the paranormal.

I think with the advent of social media and internet, the stigma is slowly being lifted. Iโ€™m blessed to be born in a generation where I can see this stigma slowly being lifted and people are being more curious about it!

Fear never good. if we think in the idea of non psychical fear. it only means we do not understand something. fear no good.

i remember talking to a woman that had the gift of seeing lower astral while awake just living her life i said she was lucky she went hah. im cursed. i said maybe ur meant to help them or help humans understand what is going on more on that level. she said maybe. either way very interesting thread to read.

other fear that i have experienced in the paranormal i can feel it but i can feel it as though its not mine but yet radiating off of me this is what i believe to be a state of being fed off and not even knowing it. i never remembered ever giving psy vampires permission but . long story short thats another form of fear anyways.

I would never watch that show; it would absolutely terrify me! Lol. It's ironic to even imagine myself being on this path, considering my intense fear of anything paranormal and my strong aversion to encountering ghostly figures. However, it astounds me that I actually have ghostly figures lurking in my surroundings. *Cough cough.* It's truly spine-chilling!

If you were to ask me, my response would also be a resounding no. I have no desire to witness the spiritual or astral realm if given the chance, as it is not always a realm of bliss and serenity. Although I only get to see sunshine and rainbows. I am deeply apprehensive of anything that deviates from the human form. Despite the knowledge I have acquired, my fear of the supernatural remains intact and unyielding. Lol.

I vividly recall reciting specific words, a powerful phrase bestowed upon me by my parents, who introduced me to our aunt, the head of a sacred pagoda. This phrase possesses an incredible force (it's actually a mantra) that expels any and all negative entities, regardless of their form, identity, or strength. In moments of fear or when I sensed the presence of these entities (which was all in my head at the time), this was the sole expression I would utter. However, this was all prior to embracing the path of Spirit Keeping. Now, I no longer find it necessary to recite the phrase. Although I have gained knowledge and become a Spirit Keeper, my fears have not been automatically eradicated. Lol. It's just me.

I feel immense empathy for the one who is forced to become a shaman. However, I also ponder the idea that the actions of her mother in her lifetime may have consequences for her daughter, leading her to take on this path whether she desires it or not. There are certain phenomena that cannot be fully comprehended through television episodes.

Fear is neither good nor bad. Fear is an innate response that your mind produces when it sees something it is not familiar with, and is associated with a flight or fight response mode which helps you determine the best course of action in that moment of time to preserve your life. It is an instinct.

What is important is to ground yourself and understand what is causing that fear. Irrational fear is never good.

I think we are both blessed to only see the sunshine and rainbows. Someone out there loves us haha. Specific word and phrases do hold power! Just like reciting bible verses. I also wondered if her mother's path had made her daughter's path like this. We will never know, but I think it may be possible.

The latest episode I watched, there was a guy who had been possessed by ghosts for 20 years! Apparently the ghosts made him believe that they are his ancestors, deities.
One shaman gave the opinion that he was possessed by ghosts, but he didn't want to believe it. He went to another shaman, and the other also verified the same thing.
However it seems the years of prolonged 'brain-wash' by the ghosts had already taken root in him, and he decided to not remove them from his life.
While watching, I already had the sense he was not going to get rid of them. It was just sad, really.

There was even a jump scare, heh. I just found it funny. I wonder if you will scream out loud at jump-scares?
I cringe at my memory of being the only one laughing in the cinema when everyone screamed.

your entire argument was based of 3d reality. which is the physical world which is very dense on earth. so true fear is good in the flight or fight response in this reality. but i specifically. stated. NON PYSHICAL STATE. - Mediate and able to disconnect from human body and just being. is so much more peaceful you lose the idea of worry/ fear/ anxiety. its so peaceful.

i am curious why you went physical when i said nonphysical.

again in the meta pyshical realm, paranormal, magick, starseed world fear does nothing for you period. it does nothing good but hinder you.
