Last night, right before bed, I had this totally random thought/message pop into my head:

“This home could use an altar to Dionysus.”

Uhhh… absolutely not. I shut that idea down fast. 😅
But I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my thought. I suspect it was a message from one of my satyrs ( I have 8), specifically, one who used to be a ritual specialist for… let’s just say hedonistic festivals in honor of gods like Dionysus. You get the vibe.

And while yes, Dionysus is a powerful god of sacred ecstasy, queer liberation, wine, pleasure, frenzy, and the unmasking of truth. I’m not looking to anchor the full “Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll” energy into my home right now. It’s tempting, sure. But that door? Staying closed.

Then, just to be cheeky, he followed up with:

“Well, what about Bacchus?”

Nice try, bud. Same god. Different branding.

And here’s the kicker:
Today, while scrolling online, I just so happened to find myself starring at a statue of Dionysus. I wasn’t even searching for it. It just popped up. Coincidence? …Yeah, I don’t think so.

Also worth noting. I have a roommate, so spirit keeping is already on the down low in this space. Discretion is a must, and space is limited. I'm definitely not in a position to host high-voltage ecstatic energies or surprise divine visitors who like to throw spiritual raves in the living room.

Has anyone else had a spirit like a satyr casually suggest you invite in a deity with some intense energy? Did you go with it, or shut it down? Curious to hear if I’m alone in this or if Dionysus (or someone else) has tried to crash your party too.

So, I can't claim association with anyone as wild as Bacchus/Dionysus, but it WAS through the invitation of members of my keep that I made space on an existing shrine for offering glasses and representations of Aphrodite and Hathor, with channels to them bound by CH included. I choose to engage in "proxy worship" sometimes, where I make an offering on behalf of members of my spirit family who follow said goddess and request the goddess bless them and answer any prayers they might extend up. It's a unique sort of relationship, mostly transactional in nature to me but gives my faithful spirits an opportunity to continue making physical offerings to their deity of choice.

Hey, at least he asked first, lol.

Granted, it IS something that may need consideration when bringing in new companions. Personally I try and be cordial to any visits that occur, since I don't come between my companions and their own 'gigs'--as long as the immortals/deities are being mindful and respectful, (I don't do well with the 'bend a knee to me' bit,). Some I do become friendly with--a loved companion brought Bastet in when I was in a bad spot, and she's been a part of my life since.

On the other hand, I did have one companion that brought in her deity on the first night of her arrival, and it was one that I'm not really on good terms with, lol. There was quite a bit of head-butting that night, (it was midnight for flip's sake!).

Perhaps something to be considered adding to house rules if you don't want to/don't know how to deal with immortals/deities.

Haha maybe he wanted to give a heads up that he supports Dionysus)Bacchus. How was your satyr been since you rejected their offer of setting up a shrine?

He's not completely relenting yet. He's making me come across a lot things related to Dionysus. LOL

Interesting! Dionysus has come through to me as part of one of Noctua / Vipera's past workings. I've made a note that I might want to get a binding of him one day. He seemed cool with that. In fact for me he seems cool, not wild/edgy.

I know about his mythos, the Maenads etc, but to me he seems to embody the essence of civilisation, the arts & theatre etc, not so much out of control, risky energy. There was nothing intense, wildly hedonistic about his energy - although that is associated with the Maenads (his female followers) and Indeed Satyrs.

Maybe a Satyr is more like that than Dionysus?

I'd stick my neck out and say wild abandon isn't inevitable with Dionysus. Or maybe it *is* civilised to let our hair down a bit and let go a bit. Divine Ecstasy is ok. Wine can be civilising too. Especially the point at which alcohol opens you up and brings you into the moment does feel spiritual to me. (A morning after hangover doesn't btw.)

There again I have lived a mildly hedonistic lifestyle at times in my life.

But we each can relate to different aspects of deities. So maybe my experience is not everyone's.

Go with what suits you / your gut. Maybe note current events for future reference?

Also, you'll know better than me but your spirit companion didn't actually say "You should construct an altar to Dionysus".

It's easier for me as I don't room share. I do have an Immortals spirit commune.

This has never happened to me before. My Keep doesn’t bring any deities here because they believe it isn’t needed. If they do decide to invite one, it must be discussed as a group. They can’t just choose whoever they want, even though a few of them actually reside in the realms of deities. I recommend talking to your Keep to understand why the invitation was extended, and you can decline it if you wish. Besides, you’re not connecting with him for personal reasons anyway. I don’t think he’s all about hedonism or spiritual parties like some might think. 😆

I know Vipera works with Dionysus, so there's a greater chance he’ll show up for her clients. The same goes for other practitioners and their patrons, aka the practitioner’s deities are more likely to come forward for those they work with. I once had a similar experience when a practitioner offered me a free portal to a Goddess, only to later find out that the Goddess was their patron, which I hadn’t known at the time. Although we weren’t compatible, I chose to destroy the portal, and we parted ways amicably. I wish the practitioner had talked to me about the portal before binding it without my knowledge. Still, I believe the outcome would have been similar.

Ultimately, there’s no right or wrong way to handle this. It all comes down to what makes you feel comfortable.
