How exactly could you marry multiple times and this not be known to members of your keep? You have to consciously hide things from bound spirits; by default they can even read your mind. There's no way you accidentally hid that fact without trying. Either you misunderstood the situation entirely, or they were pretending to be deceived and upset in order to control you.
